Why does Shaw charge for CBC News network when it is free on CBC Gem app?

I can watch CBC News Network for free on my TC via apple TV with CBC Gem app but Shaw blocks it unless I pay for it?

Our CBC National news service should be free!

Should be free as in included with basic cable not extra charge, It's free on internet from CBC

As a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Shaw has temporarily offered some "news" channels for free:

• 35/140 - BBC World News - expiring May 31, 2020
• 33/220 - CNN - expiring May 31, 2020
• 113/227 - CBC News Network - expiring May 31, 2020
• 114/226 - CTV News -  - expiring May 18, 2020
• 911 - Le Canal Nouvelles - expiring June 30, 2020
• Russian TV International - expiring May 30, 2020

Also, there are other channels that were free, until yesterday (May 31, 2020).

Global BC1 News is available on free previous (In BC) until June 30 or until further notice

CTV News Channel is also continuing as a free preview (until further notice)

I have no intentions of paying for something I can watch free on my TV

• CTV News - still available

CBC Gem on Apple TV did not include CBC News Net before the Pandemic unless you paid for the commercial-free version of Gem. Shaw may have failed to match CBC's action. I do agree that it should be free all the time.

It was included on "basic cable" in the 90s under Rogers in Vancouver area..

Also, CTV News Channel is included on the "Limited TV" package (SD version only)

The HD version is not, but it is on the "free preview" at the moment (ongoing)
