Hi there,
My home network is a BlueCurve Technicolor CGM4140COM Gateway and three Wifi Pods.
I have disabled Shaw Hotspot in my account but my network continues to broadcast hidden networks (currently there are 10 but the number varies constantly).
1) I understand that these are for Freedom Mobile or Bluesky TV connections and initially couldn't be disabled, but I thought that with the new ability to deselect them in my Shaw online account, they would no longer be broadcast.
Is this incorrect? And why are there so many?
2) The pods broadcast country code US on 2.4GHz/40MHz, and a blank cc on 5GHz/80MHz. The gateway uses Canada on 2.4GHz/20MHz and 5GHz/80MHz.
Why do these differ by bandwidth and why aren't they all Canada?
3) Why do some of the hidden networks use WPA/WPA2 Enterprise Security when all others use WPA2 Personal?
Appreciate any insight -- thank you in advance. 🙂
@ShantelS -- if you delete all those connections, and power-off/power-on the BlueCurve, which connections re-appear? Only the "Bluesky TV connections" ?
Thanks so much for replying! I unplugged the pods, deleted them in the app, and restarted the gateway.
I now have:
* Two visible networks (1 x 20MHz and 1 x 80 MHz), both with cc: CA, both with WPA2 Personal
* Five hidden networks (3 x 20MHz and 2 x 80MHz), all with cc: CA; 2 x 20MHz and 1 x 80MHz with WPA2 Personal, 1 x 20MHz and 1 x 80MHz with WPA/WPA2 Enterprise
(This info is from Mac Wireless Diagnostics, btw.)
Thank you again; I really appreciate your time and expertise.
@ShantelS -- Five hidden networks:
* (3 x 20MHz and 2 x 80MHz), all with cc: CA; 2 x 20MHz and 1 x 80MHz with WPA2 Personal,
Could these be the default "support" networks for Pods and/or WiFi-using TV boxes that is present within the current generation of Shaw cable-modems?
* 1 x 20MHz and 1 x 80MHz with WPA/WPA2 Enterprise
Could these be the support for the "ShawMobileHotspot" network, to allow customers of "Freedom Mobile" to connect to your cable-modem, via a different channel, to give those customers WiFi access? That might explain the "enterprise" method of authentication.
With your pods still powered-off, do you see any connections from your cable-modem to any WiFi devices?
