My desktop connection from the remote computer (outside the local network) stopped working, but I can still connect from within the same local network. Restarted BlueCurve modem that I got a couple months ago, restarted by computer, other device I was trying to connect with, checked ports, settings in Windows, that Port is being forwarded in Shaw Home app. How can Shaw not support a basic function such as port forwarding on their own modems/apps?

The Shaw Agents cannot be possibly trained to give support on more than the "usual" issues for 95% of their customers.
Check the log-file from the Windows Firewall, to see if this firewall is blocking the unsolicited incoming traffic from connecting.
The "public" IP-address that your previous cable-modem had is different from the "public" IP-address that your new cable-modem is using. So, be sure that your external device is connecting to the "new" IP-address.
Use: www.who.is from your in-home computer to see the current "public" IP-address of your cable-modem.
I had checked that the public IP address had remained the same. By process of elimination, since I could still connect inside the local network, and no other settings had changed, that it was at the modem or Shaw's service side. Oddly enough, it is working to connect outside via Internet this morning, so another confirmation that it was not due to something inside my network or setup. Port Forwarding is a very common feature that should be supported if Shaw is going to provide the modem-router.

I would not have expected that.
Each device that connects to Shaw Internet, namely your "previous" and "current" routers, should get a unique IP-address, because each device has a unique MAC-address that it sends to Shaw's DHCP-server.
For example:
$ nslookup 70.66.29.432
Name: S01061c9d7275f847.XX.shawcable.net
Address: 70.66.29.432
The domain "name" for each device on Shaw's network starts with "S0106". The next 6 characters identify the company that manufactures the device, namely:
OUI: 1C:9D:72 is vendor name: Vantiva USA LLC
and VANTIVA is in Norcross, Georgia, USA.
VANTIVA makes the "XB7" cable-modem, or at least the Ethernet adapter for the WAN port on the XB7.
The "XX" in the name is an abbreviation for a city, e.g., "CG" --> Calgary.
So, please check that the IP-address changed when you switched Shaw routers.

Note, I did not change routers, it is the same router/modem. The IP address I used for nslookup is the same one that hasn't changed since I changed to Shaw from another provider a couple months ago. I am located near Vancouver.
