I'm trying to set up Thunderbird (IMAP) with my Shaw email, but it doesn't seem to be working right. It's receiving emails fine, but if I try to send any, I get an error message saying that it timed out. I used the settings listed on the site, listed below, so I'm not sure what the issue could be. Any input would be gratefully received.
Settings I used:
Account Type: IMAP
Username: Your Shaw email address without @shaw.ca
Password: Your Shaw email password
Email address: Your Shaw email address
Incoming Server Name: imap.shaw.ca
Incoming Server Security Type: SSL (SSL/TLS option in Thunderbird)
Incoming Server Port: 993
Outgoing Server Name: mail.shaw.ca
Outgoing Server Security Type: TLS (SSL/TLS option in Thunderbird)
Outgoing Server Port: 587
Thunderbird did automatically try to set the outgoing port as 465, so I tried that as well, and that too failed.
I'm using Windows 10 on a laptop, for reference.
@minahraven The settings there are correct. Just to confirm, you are able to send email when logging into Shaw Webmail, correct? Do you have your email setup in a mail client on any other computers or devices and are they also experiencing issues when trying to send email?
Yep, I have no issues whatsoever with Webmail. I've been using it without any problems. And I have the email set up on my phone and can send email just fine there too. Thunderbird seems to be the only one with issues.
Edit: I just ran a quick test, as I also have a Gmail account set up to use Thunderbird as well, and wondered if it was a Thunderbird issue. Attempted to send a test email from each account to the other.
"Sending of the message failed.
The message could not be sent because the connection to Outgoing server (SMTP) mail.shaw.ca timed out. Try again."
@minahraven hmm, is there an option to update the outgoing mail server port? If so, can you try using 25 or 587? I have more specific setting details here.
I tried changing the Outgoing Server to smtp.shaw.ca but that didn't work either.
I'm using Thunderbird 91.4.1 on a MacOS Monterey 12.1.
Settings that work!

thanks....been wrestling with this for six days...started receiving multiple copies of previously deleted emails....thought Thunderbird was going wonky, but as a client for my gmail account it worked fine. I believe Rogers changed their mail servers URLs, and the webmail worked fine all along. And the Rogers support seems unaware of the issues. Hopefully they'll read this.
Thanks for sharing your solution! Perhaps in another week or so I might have stumbled on this permutation....or not !!
@Burned -- your settings:

will work whenever you are connected through your cable-modem, which has an IP-address within the Rogers/Shaw network. But, if you connect wirelessly through some other Internet Service Provider, e.g., Starbucks, TimHortons, Telus, you need to select some other "Connection Security" and "Authentication Method", to authorize your device to connect to "mail.shaw.ca", by sending your ID & your password.
The advantage is that when you return to connecting through your cable-modem, there is no need to "undo" the changes -- just "set it and forget it". 🙂
