Hi,
I've been recently having issues downloading Apple software updates for iPhone through my Windows PC and my Mac. I've been constantly getting network error messages like below. I have an Arris XB6 (Technicolor) modem.
I spoke to Apple support and they said it's a network issue on my end. It's also the same behaviour through iTunes on Windows. I verified this as I was able to download the software using my phone's hotspot, but does not work through ethernet or wifi through my modem.
My best guess is something is blocking the traffic from my modem to Apple's update servers and I can't figure out how to fix this. I've tried relaxing the IPv6 rules in my firewall but it did not help.
Has anyone run into this issue before?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Looks like I figured it out. It happened to be Shaw's garbage default DNS server. I switched to Clouflare and my updates are now all working fine.

How did you change the dns server for the modem?
Changed in macOS network settings, not modem.
Can you share specifically what you changed in network settings?
Not likely DNS server. I switched to another provider, manually set the DNS servers same as when using Shaw, iTunes can download iOS updates now.
