Hi there,
Just looking to find out if the Gen 2 wifi pods:
Fibre+ WiFi Pods (Gen. 2 - XE2-SG)
are Wifi 6 or not? Can’t seem to find that info from the specifications.
Hi Daniel,
I appreciate the info!
Do you know when Shaw will be offering Wifi 6 Pods? Waiting to upgrade until Shaw is offering this newer technology.
Thanks,
Dave
Hi Dave, you're very welcome. We don't have an estimated time for upgrading Fibre+ WiFi pods to be WiFi 6 compatible yet. Please submit this feedback about the WiFi 6 enhancement for the WiFi pods via “Your Voice” on our website. We can share it with the appropriate stakeholders.
Meanwhile, feel free to explore any 3rd party WiFi extenders on the market that are compatible with WiFi 6.
Below is a breakdown of the various 802.11 WiFi standards and their corresponding maximum speeds.
Theoretical wireless speeds (combined upstream and downstream) are as follows:
802.11b - 11 Mbps (2.4GHz)
802.11a - 54 Mbps (5 GHz)
802.11g - 54 Mbps (2.4GHz)
802.11n - 600 Mbps (2.4GHz and 5 GHz) - 150Mbps typical for network adapters, 300Mbps, 450Mbps, and 600Mbps speeds when bonding channels with some routers
802.11ac - 1300+Mbps (5 GHz) - newer standard that uses wider channels, QAM and spatial streams for higher throughput
So, what Internet speed are you getting from Shaw? Unless you have more speed than "Fibre+ 500", the current Shaw repeaters will operate as fast as your Internet connection. Of course, if you have more than one WiFi device connected to the repeater, those devices will share that speed.
