As a Shaw Network Security subscriber, you can easily access and download McAfee True Key from the My Shaw website. This article covers the supported browsers for True Key, and how to install or uninstall it from your devices.

Note: Installation must be done from the My Shaw website (my.shaw.ca) in a browser and is not available in the My Shaw App.

Supported browsers

McAfee True Key works on the following web browsers and operating systems:

  • Google Chrome
    PC, Mac, Android
  • Mozilla Firefox
    PC, Mac, Android
  • Microsoft Edge
    PC (browser extension only)
  • Apple Safari
    iOS

Note: Only the latest versions of the browsers listed are fully supported.

How to install on your computer

Here's how to install McAfee True Key on your Windows PC or Mac:

Step 1: Activate from your My Shaw account

  1. Go to my.shaw.ca and sign in.
  2. Navigate to My Services > Internet.
  3. Scroll down to the McAfee Multi Access section.
  4. If you haven't registered for McAfee yet, click Register, enter your information and then click Continue. If you've registered before, skip to Step 5 below.
  5. Click Download.
  6. You'll now be taken to the McAfee My Account website to download the app.

Step 2: Add True Key extension to your browser

  1. In McAfee My Account, scroll to the Secure your identity with the True Key App section.
  2. Copy the activation code provided in case you are asked to enter it later.
  3. Click the red Download button. You'll be taken to the McAfee True Key download page.
  4. Click the red Add to... button. Your browser name will be shown (e.g., 'Add to Chrome' or 'Add to Firefox').
  5. Follow the steps to add the True Key extension to your web browser.

Step 3: Create your True Key profile and Master Password

  1. Open the True Key browser extension.
  2. Click Let's go to set up a new profile. If you've registered before, login and skip to Step 4 below.
  3. Enter your name, email address, and Master Password, then click Create Profile.
  4. Confirm your Master Password.

You're all set!

How to install on your mobile device

Here's how to install McAfee True Key on your iOS or Android device:

Step 1: Activate from your My Shaw account

  1. Go to my.shaw.ca in a web browser and sign in.
    • Note: Installation must be done from the My Shaw website (my.shaw.ca) in a browser and is not available in the My Shaw App.
  2. Navigate to My Services > Internet.
  3. Scroll down to the McAfee section.
  4. If you haven't registered for McAfee yet, tap Register, enter your information and then tap Continue. If you've registered before, skip to Step 5 below.
  5. Tap Download.
  6. You'll now be taken to the McAfee My Account website to download the app.

Step 2: Download and install the True Key App

  1. In McAfee My Account, scroll to the Secure your identity with the True Key App section.
  2. Copy the activation code provided in case you are asked to enter it later.
  3. Click the red Download button. You'll be taken to the True Key App download page.
    • Note: If you're starting the install from another device, you can choose Send Link to have a download link sent to your mobile device.
  4. Download and install the True Key App.
    • For iOS (Apple App Store), tap Get.
    • For Android (Google Play Store), tap Install.

Step 3: Create your True Key profile and Master Password

  1. Once installed, open the True Key App.
  2. Swipe through the True Key informational screens and tap Get Started.
  3. To set up a new profile, enter your information and click Agree. If you've registered before, click Sign in and enter your existing profile information.
  4. Open the True Key App on your device.

Step 4: Install True Key via SMS/Email link from McAfee My Account

Note: This process should only be used once an initial True Key account has been created via the direct download process noted above.

  1. Click on the Link option next to Download.
  2. This will provide an option to send an SMS to a phone number or an Email.
  3. Click Text me or Email me.
  4. Open the SMS or email on the desired device, click Protect Me
  5. You will be directed to the McAfee download page, click Get Started and continue with installation.

You're all set!

How to uninstall from your computer

If you've installed McAfee True Key on your computer and no longer wish to use it, you can remove it at any time.

McAfee True Key is comprised of two main parts:

  • An extension that is installed in your web browser (Google Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Mozilla Firefox). The extension allows your passwords to be saved and filled in automatically as you browse your favorite sites.
  • An app that allows you to configure and manage True Key.

If you want to remove True Key from your PC or Mac, you can choose to remove just the extension from your browser, or to remove both the extension and the app completely. Both options are shown below:

Remove the True Key App and extension from your PC or Mac

This option removes both the app and the extension from your computer.

Uninstall from Windows

  1. Click StartControl PanelAdd or Remove Programs.
  2. Select the True Key App from the list and click Uninstall.
  3. Follow the prompts to complete the process.

Uninstall from Mac

  1. Open the Applications 
  2. Drag the True Key App to the Trash icon in your dock.
  3. Empty the Trash.

Remove the True Key extension from your browser

This option removes the extension only. The True Key App remains installed.

Uninstall from Google Chrome

  1. Click the Tools menu on the right side of the browser menu.
  2. Select Extensions, then choose True Key.
  3. Click Disable, or Uninstall

Uninstall from Internet Explorer

  1. Click Tools and select Manage Add-ons.
  2. In the Manage Add-ons window, choose the True Key App.
  3. Click Disable.

Uninstall from Mozilla Firefox

  1. Click the menu on the right side of the browser.
  2. Select Add-ons, and then Extensions.
  3. Choose True Key and click Disable or Remove.

Uninstall from Microsoft Edge

  1. Open Microsoft Edge.
  2. Select More (...) to open the menu.
  3. Select Extensions from the menu.
  4. Right-click the extension you want to remove and select Remove, or select the extension and click the Remove button. 

How to uninstall from your mobile device

If you've installed McAfee True Key on your mobile device and no longer wish to use it, you can remove it at any time.

Uninstall from iOS

  1. Tap and hold any app on the Home screen, then tap Edit Home Screen. The apps begin to jiggle.
  2. Tap the Close button on the McAfee True Key App, then tap Delete.
  3. Tap Done (on an iPhone with Face ID) or press the Home button (on other iPhone models). 

Uninstall from Android

  1. Open your app drawer and locate the McAfee True Key App.
  2. Tap and hold the True Key App icon until the app options appear.
  3. Tap Uninstall, or choose App Info and then tap Uninstall.
  4. Tap OK to confirm.
