Modem

I have lost my 5G network on Shaw wi-fi.. It is not recognized.  I have an Arris SBG6782 wired modem.

Green and blue lights are solid and flashing.

I do have another network but prefer the 5G.

Is the modem the problem?

@Wolans  If a power cycle didn’t fix the problem, you may need to do a pinhole reset.

Thanks. Before I did a pin reset I rebooted the modem and it worked.

Why does the 5G network pop out, happens quite frequently.

@Wolans  Not sure, I haven't had that model for a few years, maybe it is faulty, you could see about getting a replacement.

Possibly.  When you "lose" that network, does the "5Ghz" lamp on the front of the modem go dark?

If so, then I agree that you should contact Shaw (1-888-472-2222) to get a replacement (either the same model, or the newer XB7 or XB8 models).

I have not looked.

Next time 5G pops out I will see if the 5Ghz lamp goes out.

If so, I will ask Shaw for a new modem.

@Wolans -- Next to my network, it says weak security.

Over the years, there have been several protocols for wireless communications:

In your case, your device is connecting via WEP to the SSID of some access point, such as a third-party router, or a less-than-optimally-configured Shaw cable-modem.  WEP is less "secure" than the newer protocols, making it more suspectible to "packet-sniffing".

To what device is your computer connecting? Can you configure that device to use WPA2 or WPA3?

My MacBook and Ipad are  connecting to Arris SBG6782.

I think I need to reconfigure to WPA3. How do I do this?
