Shaw Hitron CGNM 2250 router/modem: enable USB port?

lagagnon

I have a Shaw Hitron CGNM 2250 modem/router. I really need to be able to access my USB storage drive (2TB HDD) as a network device. There are 2 USB ports on the back of this modem and the full manual for that device (available here: https://www.midco.com/contentassets/a8faa9563b6b49e5b244ef7418c1b314/hitron-cgnm-2250-modem-user-gui... ) shows that there should be an "Admin > USB Storage" screen to setup the network drive.

It seems as though Shaw has disabled the availability of the USB port to be used for this purpose, probably by changing the firmware of this router.

If that is the case is there any way to have this feature enabled, as it really cripples this router for my purposes.

Hi @lagagnon  according to this support page https://support.shaw.ca/t5/internet-articles/hardware-information-hitron-cgnm-2250-docsis-3-0-wifi-m... it does indicate that the usb is disabled. I personally am not aware of a method to activate them.  If I'm wrong I'm sure someone will chime in.  Hope this answers your question.  Good luck and stay safe.

Do you have one computer on your local network that is always powered-on, and not "sleeping" ?

If so, connect the USB-device to a USB3 (or USB2, if you have no USB3) port on that computer, and use Windows Networking to "share" this device, in "read/write" mode, across your local network. Then, each of your other devices can "map" the device to a drive-letter.

I have the same modem and usb file sharing works for me using a usb stick. The modem will only support devices up to 500ma. if you have a spinning HD it's probably pulling more than that. The drive needs to be FAT 16 FAT32 or NTFS

Were you able to set up your USB drive on the Shaw Hitron 2250 modem?
I've checked every link in the modem settings and cannot find how to set-up and use a USB flash drive storage.

I talked to Shaw tech support rep in India and she said that she cannot help and that I was on my own to figue it out.

you won't see anything about usb because Shaw hid the link to the page. I got there by changing the last digit in the url until this showed up. go to the admin page first then paste the url
