August 5, 2020 - Shaw retires the Pace Whistler PVR

Effective August 5 2020, Shaw customers will no longer be able to access any video programming using this TV box.

Note: This box cannot be re-activated, or moved from one account to another.

The Pace Whistler is a high definition TV box with PVR functionality, capable of ... accessing Video On Demand.

 

Its disk-drive's capacity is 160 GB.

Later this year, the Pace Summit also will be retired.

This reminds me that I really have watch everything on my old 3416 before that model gets retired too. I still have about 5 or 6 movies from Movie Central ( remember those guys !!!! ) still on that machine. I'm actually afraid to unplug it as the content might just disappear. 😲

This reminds me that I really have watch everything on my old 3416 before that model gets retired too. I still have about 5 or 6 movies from Movie Central ( remember those guys !!!! ) still on that machine. I'm actually afraid to unplug it as the content might just disappear. 😲

@bostonbob -- if you unplug it, will the disk-drive stop, and "seize", and never ever spin-up again? Hmm.

I see that the 6416, not your 3416, will be retired in "early 2021". No announced "sunset-date" for your PVR. YET.

Not only possible, but it has happened to me -- the disk-drive would spin, but nothing could be read.

I did have a "clone" of the failed disk-drive, set aside. Guess what. It too failed.

Sigh.
