I’m not looking forward to replacing the Gateway system that has been relatively reliable and user friendly for the past decade.
Depending on where you live you might still be able to use your Gateway.......at least for awhile. My 3416 had a late 2021 retirement date but only for certain areas on the Regional TV Box Upgrade page on the Legacy TV Box Upgrade page it is still listed as being retired in early April. If you check the Legacy page there is no mention at all of the Gateway being retired: https://support.shaw.ca/t5/tv-articles/about-legacy-tv-box-upgrade-program/ta-p/9242#content-section... .
I would think the Gateway would stick around at least until SHAW brings out another option. I know they are really pushing the Bluecurve box but you would think they would have more than one model available for their customers. Regardless I sure am glad that I purchased both my 3416 and Gateway boxes. That's about $900 I'll never get back.
Here’s hoping you’re right, though I figure those three markets identified in the article make sense to start the phase out process, given the subscriber base and infrastructure to support BlueCurve. The Legacy page appears not to list the Gateway yet, since it’s still at a ‘regional’ point.
I received a call from a Shaw rep, advising me I needed to make a hardware change within the next few months, which also sounded like I needed to make a programming change to match the current compatible package. Cost for the TV package would be pretty much the same, with the addition of a bunch of bundled SD channels which I could care less about, and they offered to bump up my Internet component by one tier for no extra charge (savings of a whopping $5). I’m going to explore my options, and probably wait for the point where I’m told the Gateway is actually no longer going to be functional.

I'm not anti-SHAW ( or else I would have left along time ago ) but maybe you should read this thread: https://support.shaw.ca/t5/billing-account-discussions/is-it-time-to-move-my-services/td-p/47375
I still haven't made a final decision but unless SHAW calls me back ( I will not bother calling them seeing how my last call went ) it sure looks like I will be making the switch over to Telus at the end of March. Telus has been dealing with me like they actually want me as a customer instead of the " take it or leave it " attitude that I'm getting from a company that I have been with for over 20 years.
If and when Shaw retires the Gateway, will be interesting for me. I've been a Shaw customer for a very long time, but not because "well, I've always been", for the recent past ? 10 years ??? it's has been because of the Gateway.
Telus installed fiber optic in my area a number of years ago and we were inundated (wave after wave) of sales people pushing "move to Telus, it's so much better". It was the attributes of the Gateway that solidified our continued patronage of Shaw.
Agree, the Gateway has been the best equipment by far that Shaw has provided (up to 6TB extender, great PQ, functional 30s skip).
With Bluecurve, Shaw is going back to a fully locked system (no extender support, no local recording going forward).
There may be one way to keep your Gateway going for longer: sign up your spouse for Internet and leave only cable tv on your account (bluecurve needs interent on same account I think).
Or, like me, you can drop "cable" TV altogether when the Gateway is done.
It wasn't so much what was being sorted by (date or title), but that sorting by title groups shows of the same name together in "folders", while sorting by date used to leave them in a big list sorted by date with all recordings individual no matter what the name or how many episodes of a particular show - it looked similar to what you see now if there is only one episode of each show. Selecting the sort by date option no longer appears to work, and it looks like the sort by title view.
I am also disappointed by the bluecurve wave coming. From what I have seen the bluecurve boxes are not what I want (and why would I want to talk to my remote?)
I suppose we will once again lose all of anything we have recorded, when they take away our current boxes to give us an "upgrade". Although some newer systems store your stuff somewhere in the "cloud" instead of in the box itself - maybe Shaw will get there, and allow for moving stuff from the old box to there?
Vancouver is a thriving hub for businesses of all sizes, and having a professional, SEO-friendly website is no longer optional—it’s essential. At Front Page SEO & Website Design - Vancouver, we specialize in crafting websites that not only look stunning but also deliver measurable results. Our team understands the unique needs of businesses in Vancouver, and we work tirelessly to create sites that resonate with local audiences while standing out in a competitive digital landscape.
A well-designed website is the cornerstone of your online presence. It’s where potential customers form their first impressions of your brand, find information about your products or services, and ultimately decide whether to do business with you. In Vancouver’s competitive market, your website must do more than just exist—it must captivate, engage, and convert.
As a business based in Vancouver, we understand the specific demands of the local market. Whether we’re designing a site for a vibrant small business in Gastown or a professional firm in the heart of Downtown, we ensure that every website we build reflects the personality and values of the business it represents.
For instance, we’ve worked on websites like Rainforest Landscaping, which showcases their services across Vancouver Island with a focus on tree care, stone walkways, and retaining wall construction. By incorporating visuals and content that reflect the natural beauty of Vancouver Island, we’ve created a site that appeals directly to their target audience while enhancing their search engine visibility.
At Front Page SEO & Website Design, we don’t just build beautiful websites—we optimize them for search engines from the ground up. A visually stunning site is useless if no one can find it, which is why SEO is at the core of our design philosophy.
We specialize in creating user-focused, intent-driven content that aligns with Google’s Helpful Content Update guidelines. For example, when we developed the website for Cruz N In Style Mobile Detailing, we ensured the content clearly outlined their services, from ceramic coating to boat and RV detailing. This level of detail not only attracts potential customers but also builds trust and authority in their industry.
In a city as fast-paced as Vancouver, slow-loading websites won’t cut it. We optimize every site we build for speed, ensuring that visitors can access information quickly and easily—another critical factor in Google’s ranking algorithms.
With mobile usage continuing to rise, we prioritize responsive design to ensure that every site looks and functions flawlessly across all devices. Whether a potential customer is browsing from their desktop in Coal Harbour or their phone on a SkyTrain, they’ll have a seamless experience.
We leverage the power of tools like Elementor and WordPress to give our clients maximum flexibility and functionality. As experts in Elementor design, we create websites that are visually striking and easy to manage. For businesses in Vancouver, this means:
We also provide hosting through our GoDaddy reseller platform, FrontPageDomains.ca, offering WordPress hosting optimized for speed, security, and reliability.
This sets the stage for a second half that can explore our approach to web design in more detail, highlight additional client success stories, and explain why we’re Vancouver’s top choice for web design.
At Front Page SEO & Website Design - Vancouver, we understand the challenges faced by small businesses in today’s competitive market. This shared experience fuels our passion for helping small businesses succeed. We don’t just design websites—we create opportunities for businesses to thrive online.
One size doesn’t fit all, especially when it comes to web design and SEO. Many small businesses are hesitant to invest in a website because of the high costs associated with professional design, but we’re here to change that.
We believe in full transparency when it comes to pricing. Our packages are designed to deliver exceptional value without breaking the bank, ensuring that even the smallest businesses can benefit from professional web design. Whether you need a simple, elegant site or a fully optimized e-commerce platform, we’ll work with you to create a solution that fits your needs and budget.
For businesses just starting out, we offer scalable solutions that can grow with your company. You don’t need to invest in a massive website upfront. Instead, we focus on creating a strong foundation that can be expanded as your business evolves.
We don’t just build websites—we empower our clients to take control of their online presence. By using intuitive platforms like WordPress and Elementor, we ensure that managing your website is as straightforward as possible.
We take the time to show our clients how to use their websites effectively. From adding blog posts to managing e-commerce functionality, we provide the training and support needed to keep your website running smoothly. Our goal is to help you feel confident in managing your digital presence.
Through our GoDaddy reseller platform, FrontPageDomains.ca, we offer affordable WordPress hosting that’s optimized for performance and security. This ensures that your website remains fast, reliable, and within your budget.

At Front Page SEO & Website Design - Vancouver, we’re not just building websites—we’re building a community of small businesses that support and uplift one another. We believe that by empowering local businesses with affordable, high-quality web design, we can create a more level playing field where everyone has the chance to succeed.
