Rogers Ignite vs Shaw Direct

I've been a long time customer with Shaw.  Before we switched to satellite tv, we had basic cable (this was in the time before boxes).  So I've been using sat. tv for 21 yrs now, and on Shaw Direct for 14 yrs.  This year I applied for low income support programs, including Rogers Connected for Success which offers tv and internet at great prices.  I finally decided to get the Ignite tv last week, and my box arrived last Tuesday night.  Calling it a box is misleading as it's hand palm-size.

After 1 day I decided I hated it, for some of these reasons: my favourite channel is not included, the menus are very confusing, how come I can't access my records with a separate button, the skip forward and back functions are both the same times (you can set them differently on the Shaw Direct pvr), you can only store 200 hours of recordings, and you can only store recordings for 365 days.

I was considering just biting the bullet and sticking with it, but it's so uncomfortable to use, and I have since found cheaper plans on Shaw Direct than my grandfathered in mondo-plan which costs me $174/month.  If only we could downgrade our packages online that would be so much better!  Instead I have to wait in line for hours on the phone or in the chat.  I would be saving $110/month with the Connected for Success plan, but it includes about 100 channels that I don't watch or never heard of before.  The cheaper plan on Shaw Direct I found would save me $80/month.

Plus I still haven't found how to activate my Disney+ with ads subscription.

I see others have had issues with their Ignite tv.  Sometimes my internet goes on the fritz, so I'd be tv-less during that time.  At least with the sat. pvr, I can watch old shows I already taped, or keep watching tv.  I have shows from March 2018 on my pvr, and on an even older pvr there are several recordings.  I really don't like this cloud thing.

If your older PVRs were to "die", you would lose all their recordings. If your current TV box fails, all your recordings will still be available on the "cloud".  That's a nice benefit.

You might be able to access the "cloud" recordings from a PC, if your TV (or TV box) is broken. That also is a benefit.
