Your Shaw Gateway HDPVR offers many recording options to help you watch your favourite shows when it is most convenient to you. This article only applies to Shaw Gateway and Gateway HDPVR devices.

Pause, rewind and play live TV

When you change the channel, your Shaw Gateway device will automatically begin a background recording. This makes it possible to pause or rewind live TV broadcasts.

  • Press the left arrow button on your remote OR use the REW button.
  • Press the left arrow button repeatedly to increase the rewind speed.
  • An on-screen graphic will show you the amount of footage available.
  • Press the PLAY button at any time to play the recording from that point.
  • To move forward in a recording, press the FFWD on your Shaw Remote.
  • To pause live TV, press the PAUSE button on your remote control.
  • To resume playback after pausing, press the PLAY button.

If at any time you would like to return to live playback of the television channel, just press the LIVE button on your remote.

Note: If you change the channel at any time, the automatic buffer will reset and being recording the new channel, so you won’t be able to change the channel and immediately begin rewinding.

Record live television

Watching a program you’d like to save for later? Press the REC button (red circle) on your remote to begin recording the program until it is finished (or until you cancel the recording). Pressing INFO will display the record menu, where you can specify Record Once or Record Series.

  • With Record Once highlighted, press OK on your remote to start recording the active channel and program. You will see an on-screen confirmation stating Recording Confirmed.
  • To stop or end a current recording, press the STOP button on your remote and select Yes from the menu displayed on-screen.
  • Recording a television show will store it on your Gateway’s hard drive and add it to your list of available recordings so that you can watch it as many times as you like.
  • To view your list of available recordings, press the PVR button in the top-left area of your Gateway Remote.

The PVR menu uses folders to sort recordings by show title.

  • Highlight a folder to display available episodes. Press the RIGHT arrow on your remote to select and play an episode.
  • In this view, you will see a description of each recording, including its length, rating, and whether or not the episode was new.
  • Select the episode you would like to watch and press OK on your remote to start playing it. When you have finished watching a recording, and the playback ends, you will be presented with the option to keep or delete the recording.

How to schedule a recording

One of the best features of the Shaw Gateway is the ability to schedule a future recording.

  1. In the Guide, locate a future program broadcast you want to record.
  2. While the program is highlighted, press the REC button on your remote.
  3. Select Record Once to schedule a recording of the selected broadcast.

You will see confirmation that the single instance recording has been set, with the appearance of an icon next to the program you selected.

To cancel a scheduled recording:

  1. Highlight the program in the guide.
  2. Press OK on your remote.
  3. Select Cancel Recording.

Recording indicators

These are some of the recording indicators on your Shaw Gateway TV box.

currentlyrecording.png The show is currently recording
scheduled.png The show is scheduled to be recorded in the future
recorded.png The show has been recorded. It is currently stored on the hard drive but may be deleted when space is needed. The reason it may be deleted is due to the recording settings of the title. This is the default option for all recordings.
recorded2.png The show is recorded and will remain stored until it is manually deleted.
